Why it matters

Why Sydney homes need regular exterior washing

Sydney's climate is beautiful, but it's hard on the outside of a house. Humid summers feed mould and algae on shaded walls, salt spray drifts kilometres inland from the coast, and dust, traffic film and cobwebs slowly dull even freshly painted exteriors. Left alone, that build-up does more than look tired. Mould and algae hold moisture against your walls, salt attacks paint and metal fixtures, and grime becomes progressively harder (and more expensive) to remove.

A professional exterior house wash removes all of it in a single visit. It's one of the most cost-effective ways to lift a home's street presence, and if you're preparing to sell, real estate agents consistently rank a clean exterior among the highest-return jobs you can do before listing. It's also essential preparation before repainting: paint applied over dirt, chalking or mould simply won't last.

What's included

What our exterior house & wall washing covers

Every house wash is tailored to your home, but a typical service includes:

  • All external walls, render, brick, weatherboard, Hebel, fibre cement and vinyl or metal cladding
  • Mould, algae & lichen treatment, killed at the root with a soft wash solution, not just rinsed off the surface
  • Cobweb & insect nest removal, from eaves, window frames, corners and light fittings
  • Eaves, fascias & downpipes, the trims that frame your home and show dirt first
  • Salt & traffic film removal, the dull grey haze coastal and main-road homes accumulate
  • Garden & fixture protection, plants wet down and rinsed, windows and doors checked before we start

Soft washing vs pressure washing: we use the right one

Not every wall should be pressure washed. Blasting painted render, weatherboard or older mortar with high pressure can strip paint, gouge soft surfaces and force water behind cladding. That's why we use two techniques and match them to your home:

Soft washing

Low-pressure application of specialised cleaning solutions that break down mould, algae and organic grime chemically, followed by a gentle rinse. It's the safest method for painted render, Hebel, weatherboard, fibre cement and any delicate or aged surface, and because it kills growth at the root rather than shaving it off, walls stay cleaner for longer.

Pressure washing

Controlled high-pressure water for hard, robust surfaces such as face brick, unpainted masonry and concrete. We adjust pressure, nozzles and distance to suit the material, so you get a deep clean without etching or damage.

On most Sydney homes we use a combination of both, soft washing the walls and eaves, and pressure washing hard landscaping around the house. If you'd like the paths and driveway done at the same time, see our driveway, path & patio cleaning service, bundling is usually cheaper than two separate visits.

Surfaces

Wall types we clean across Sydney

  • Painted & acrylic render, soft washed to protect the paint film while removing mould and drip stains.
  • Face brick & blonde brick, pressure washed to lift decades of grime without damaging mortar joints.
  • Weatherboard & timber cladding, gentle soft washing that cleans without forcing water into joins.
  • Hebel & AAC panel, low pressure only, as these surfaces are easily marked by careless operators.
  • Fibre cement, vinyl & Colorbond cladding, washed and rinsed to restore original colour.
  • Sandstone & retaining walls, carefully cleaned of algae and moss, a Sydney speciality given how much sandstone our suburbs have.

Pricing

What affects the cost of a house wash?

Every home is different, so we quote each job individually. The main factors that shape your price are:

  • Size and storeys, a double-storey home takes longer and needs extension equipment for safe access.
  • Wall material and condition, heavy mould or years of build-up need extra treatment and dwell time.
  • Access, tight side passages, sloped blocks and obstacles can add time.
  • Extras, bundling driveway and path cleaning or roof and gutter cleaning into the same visit usually lowers the combined cost.

Quotes are always free and come with no obligation, request one below and we'll get back to you, usually within 24 hours.

FAQ

Exterior house washing questions, answered

What is soft washing and how is it different from pressure washing?
Soft washing uses low water pressure combined with specialised cleaning solutions to break down mould, algae and dirt at the source. Pressure washing relies on high-pressure water alone. Painted render, weatherboard, Hebel and older brickwork are best cleaned with soft washing, while tougher surfaces can handle higher pressure. We assess your walls and choose the safest, most effective method for each surface.
How much does exterior house washing cost in Sydney?
The price depends on the size of your home, whether it is single or double storey, the wall material and how much mould or dirt has built up. Rather than quoting a one-size-fits-all figure, we provide a free, no-obligation quote based on your property, usually within 24 hours.
How often should I have my house washed?
For most Sydney homes, an annual exterior wash keeps walls free of mould, dirt and salt build-up. Homes near the coast, in shaded bushland areas or on busy roads often benefit from a wash every six to nine months, as salt spray, tree cover and traffic film accelerate grime.
Will house washing damage my paint, render or garden?
No. We match the pressure and cleaning solution to each surface, so delicate painted render and weatherboard are soft washed rather than blasted. We also wet down and rinse surrounding plants and garden beds before and after cleaning to protect them.
Do I need to be home during the house wash?
Not necessarily. As long as we have access to your outdoor taps and the areas being cleaned, most exterior house washes can be completed while you're out. We simply ask that windows and doors are closed and cars are moved away from the walls.
